Panch Phoran (Indian Five Spice)
Panch Phoran is a whole spice blend originating from the Indian subcontinent. The name translates to 'Bengali 5 spice'. and is most commonly fried in oil or ghee to release the flavours into the oil before adding other ingredients to the pot.
Panch Phoran adds a considerable depth of flavour to any Bengali, Bangladeshi or Nepalese dish - especially Dal.
