Panch Phoran

Panch Phoran is a 'whole spice' blend originating from the Indian Subcontinent. The name translates to 'Bengali 5 spice'. The spice is commonly fried in oil or ghee to release the flavours into the oil before adding other ingredients to the pot. Panch Phoran adds a considerable depth of flavour to any Bengali/Bangladesh or Nepalise dish especially Dal.
